Spinal manipulation involves a carefully applied, high speed, low amplitude thrust to the spinal / vertebral joint that moves it past its current end of range but not past its anatomical limit.
While all the mechanisms of manipulation are not fully understood, substantial evidence demonstrates that spinal manipulation stimulate paraspinal muscle reflexes adjacent to the joint, reducing tension and restoring normal muscle activity, whilst also affecting the inflow of sensory information to the central nervous system, increasing pain tolerance or its threshold.

Chiropractic cannot be described as a stand-alone treatment nor a technique.
It is not the collection of short videos of 'cracks and pops' that frequent YouTube and various other social media apps, nor is it a specific 'type' of manipulation.
Chiropractic IS a health profession that is statutorily regulated, as are other health professions such as Dentistry and Physiotherapy to name a few.
Chiropractors provide a package of care for patients that includes a comprehensive case history and physical examination, allowing them to form a working diagnosis and thus the appropriate treatment and management plan for each individual.

Back pain is very common - almost everyone will have back pain at some point in their lives.
Back pain can start suddenly and get better quickly, without the need for any treatment, however it can also be painful, debilitating and persistent, and some people may suffer repeated episodes.
In certain cases, back pain can be associated with other symptoms, such as leg pain or sciatica.
It may start following a specific incident, such as moving awkwardly or lifting a heavy weight, or it may come on gradually, perhaps as a result of poor or repetitive postures, an uncomfortable work position or repetitive strain.

Neck pain is quite common and often starts suddenly and gets better quickly, without the need for any treatment.
Sometimes however neck pain can be painful and persistent with recurring episodes.
It may also be associated with other symptoms, such as arm pain or headaches.
The causes of neck pain vary and may come on quickly due to minor traumas from sports injuries, minor falls and motor vehicle collisions (Whiplash Associated Disorders), or gradually due to repetitive work-related / postural habits such as smartphone use, poor desk postures or knitting and sewing to name a few.
