Shifnal Chiropractic Clinic
Shifnal Chiropractic began life on The Parade in Shifnal in 2008, founded by Jonathon Sharp as a satellite clinic from his main clinic in Shrewsbury. In 2010, Jon took on Laura Cunningham as an associate at both clinics, and by 2012 Jon was so busy at his Shrewsbury clinic he decided he would pass Shifnal Chiropractic Clinic on to Laura. Since then, the clinic has gone from strength to strength and is now a thriving, friendly clinic with an excellent reputation for truly patient-centered care.

Top tip: Once you arrive on Dyas Close, your satnav may tell you to bear left to find number 5. Ignore it! Continue straight on down to the bottom, and there is a shared driveway that disappears off to the RIGHT. The clinic is the middle one of the three houses on that driveway - there is usually a swing-sign outside, and the spine hanging in the front window is a give-away!
Services
You may already be aware that Chiropractic is a healthcare profession, specifically interested in the application of certain techniques to remedy a variety of disorders such as back pain, joint pain and muscle aches.
But what are these "certain techniques", and what exactly is encompassed by the phrase "healthcare profession"?
Firstly, Chiropractic is defined as a "primary healthcare profession, concerned with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mechanical disorders of the musculoskeletal system and the effects of these disorders on the function of the nervous system and general health".
During the course of your treatment with a Chiropractor, it is quite likely that at some point the use of an "adjustment" or "manipulation" will be brought up.
These two words are interchangeable, so for the sake of clarity here we shall just use "adjustment".
An adjustment is aimed primarily at the joints.
As Chiropractors, a large portion of what we do during an examination is focussed on identifying whether there any joints in your body which are not able to move as freely as they should.
Although the focus will primarily be on any area where you are feeling pain or discomfort, the Chiropractor may choose to ensure there is no problem being referred from another area, such as problems with the hip joints causing low back pain.
Straight off, let me say that the massage I am talking about is nothing like that nice soothing process involving oils, scented candles and much relaxing.
While I am indeed aiming to relax certain muscles, and I use my hands to achieve that, it is much more specifically targeted than that holiday-type massage.
Originally Chiropractic was all about the joints - and many Chiropractors still choose to operate on this assumption.
However, at Shifnal Chiropractic, we believe that the tissues surrounding the joints are every bit as important - after all, if the muscles move the joint, and the joint is unable to move correctly, it stands to reason that the muscle will develop a problem as well.
Affectionately known by Chiropractors as "rehab", this stage of your care is specifically targeted at stopping your initial problem coming back and preventing future injuries from occurring.
At Shifnal Chiropractic, we try to make sure that you have as much control over your own health as possible - if we can give you the tools to enable you to never have to visit a Chiropractor again, then we view that as a success!
But what is "rehab"?
Well, in this case it has nothing whatsoever to do with recovering from addictions to alcohol or drugs!
Sports massage is not specifically a Chiropractic treatment method, but it is nevertheless a very useful technique which we recommend at Shifnal Chiropractic Clinic.
Essentially, sports massage is a form of massage which uses a much firmer pressure than some other forms to really work deep into the muscle.
This not only relaxes the muscles that are being worked on, but also encourages lymphatic and venous drainage from the area, aiding the recovery of muscles following exercise or injury, and generally promoting health and healing in the area.
